What ball color is right for you?

To ensure a positive start in tennis for youth players, it's crucial to provide appropriate court sizes, shorter racquets, and lower bouncing balls. This will encourage physical activity and help them feel successful. You can select your ball color by using the drop-down menu on this page.

  • (Racquet size 19 to 23-inch racquet)

    At this age, children use red balls. They can be foam or felt in composition. Red tennis balls bounce lower and move more slowly through the air, giving beginning players a chance to set up and take a good swing at the ball. Courts at this level are 36 feet long and 18 feet wide, with a net that is 2-foot-9.

    Red Ball class is groups based on students’ skill levels. The class consists of fun games using mini nets and encouraging proper motor skills.

  • (Racquet size 23 to 25 inches)

    Orange-felt balls bounce higher and move faster than red balls but slower than green balls. They are a step toward the traditional yellow tennis ball while remaining fun and manageable for players learning the game. Courts at this level are 60 feet by 27 feet for doubles.

    Students will learn the tennis basics, including stroke technique, proper positioning, and footwork, through drills and fun games that will help them progress toward the next level, along with match play. Students will are divided by skill level.

  • (Racquet size is 25 to 26 inches)

    The Green ball is very similar to the traditional yellow tennis ball, but with a slightly lower compression, so it rebounds lower off the court after a bounce. The Green court is the same dimension as the traditional yellow court: 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles.

    Instruction focuses on enhancing the player’s tennis foundation and introducing supervised match play. Skills developed include proper stroke mechanics and basic footwork patterns. Students also learn to serve, volley, directional control, and the ability to rally a point. Players will be in groups based on students’ skill levels.

  • (Adult racquet size 27 to 29 inches)

    The Yellow level is what most people know as traditional tennis. The balls, courts, and racquets at this level are used in adult matches and at the professional level. Court size 78 feet by 36 feet for doubles,

    Teen Tennis Drills are our development class for players 13 years and older. This class uses regular compression, yellow balls, and a full-sized court. Although instruction focuses on enhancing the player’s tennis foundation, skill development includes proper stroke mechanics and footwork patterns. Students also learn to serve, volley, directional control, and the ability to rally a point. Drills and Skills classes are high-energy classes. The instruction focuses on games based on enhancing learning through situational play. Groups will be divided based on skill level.
